How much does a sucsessful opera singer makes? I am a dramatic coloratura, which according to a lot of thing I have read is a pretty rare voice type. I am also a fiction writer. I love both, but where they both are quite competative opera seems to be the one that I could more easily get into. ( I think there are many more aspiriting writers then opera singers, and on top of that, much less dramatic coloraturas) I am not going to choose, I plan to do both. I am 23 right now and am just finishing up my school work. My vocal teacher is very insistant I could be extreamly sucessful in the world of opera. Does anyone know what a sucessful opera singer makes in salary?
How much do u usually earn from becoming an opera/classical singer? ...compared to pop superstars like Britney or Madonna? What is the usual "pricetag" of a very famous opera singer for a single show? And how about the album sales? I know it may not sell as much as current popstars but is it still profitable? Can u earn a lot of money as an opera/classical performer? I seem to notice there are a lot of classical singers or classically-trained singers who switch to pop music like Charlotte Church or Josh Groban. p.s: sorry if this question has been asked before!
What are the prospects for an opera singer fresh out of college? Are jobs easy for the taking, or would an opera singer have as much chance at a paying job as an actor looking for Broadway? My voice teacher told me there's less supply for opera singers. I have taken various types of voice lessons since I was 5, all of them in a group setting, and will soon start private voice lessons at the age of 16. I have also done a lot of amateur theatre with a well-known high school arts group. I've seriously been considering this career choice.
What classes are necessary for me to take to become an opera singer? Hello! I am a 17 year old senior, and I have been singing all my life. I have not had proper one on one training, but have gotten into various honors choirs, and I participate even now in a concert choir. I am looking to become a full-flegded opera singer, but am at a loss as to what classes to take, how many years it will take me, etc.. I am hoping to go to a college that will teach me only music, thus no liberal arts. Focus! I live in SE Wisconsin... information? Thank-you so much for your time!
How do you measure an opera singer's voice? How do you know that a singer is a soprano, a mezzo, or a contralto? I find Cecilia Bartoli's voice higher and more flexible than Sarah Brightman's but the former is just a mezzo and the latter a soprano which I find weird. Also, I find Adelina Patti's voice just the same height as Ernestine Schumann Heink but they are completely different. Opera enthusiasts, help me on this. And are wagnerian sopranos voice higher than a coloratura mezzo? Thank you! :)

do i have to be an Opera singer to get into a vocal performance or singing major? hi, i'm looking at majors right now and all i'm seeing for singing is vocal performance and usually it talks about opera. i'm an alternative rock singer with some broadway influences, i know i have talent and have taken lessons before but it seems like all the colleges are looking for Opera singers rather than normal singers. is there a program in colleges for people like me? are vocal performance majors only for opera singers? if so, what should my major be, i want to be in a band and tour but i think a strong music education backround would help.

Tips on learning to sing and be an opera singer? Hi, I am European, 29 and live in Singapore. I have always wanted to be an opera singer but I never trusted my voice to be good enough. Various people told me I should sing as a career and especially an amazing and famous opera singer told me 2 months ago I should make it my career. She just taught me to breath. I am training my voice everyday, I play the piano, am learning Italian, learning repertoire and have a vocal teacher once a week. Any advice? I'd love to practise with a vocal teacher everyday but it is very expensive.
Is it possible to be an opera singer and a contemporary singer? I know they're different vocal styles but I'm curious. I want to be a contemporary singer and I have been taking lessons to learn how to use my "mixed" voice but recently I've been really into opera, and I was in choir for about 4 years so I know I can learn that vocal style but is it healthy?? Can it be done? Are there any famous singers out there who do both opera and commercial music?? --Thank you!! xxHarlow
How can I sing popular music correctly and not sound like an opera singer? I have been taking voice lessons for around 5 years and have a lot of classical training behind me. I usually do Mozart and that kind of opera type stuff. I am in a small (8 singers) choir and we are doing mostly pop music this semester(Under the Sea, Beach Boys, Irving Berlin) and I stick out tonally because they all sing it different. I'm trying not to break every rule I've every been taught and still blend with everyone else! How in the world an I supposed to do this?
Has anyone heard of an old opera singer named Hawkshaw Hawkins? Supposedly this is a distant relative of mine on my paternal grandmother's (? i think) side. He was an opera singer for the New York Orchestra, I believe, at one time according to my father. When I try looking him up I keep finding a Harold Floyd "Hawkshaw" Hawkins that was a country singer and according to my father, that isn't him.

Opera dance song with male opera singer? I was in Italy earlier this week and heard a dance song with an opera sample on the radio channel M due O. It had a male opera singer singing the word 'Gloria' a lot. I've checked the playlists on the radio website but still can't seem to find it. I'd be so grateful if someone could help me out as it was such a great song!
What exactly does it take to become an Opera Singer? In middle school and high school, I was in the choir. In high school, you had to try out to be in it, so I know that I am pretty good at singing because I made it into the show choir. But, what does it take to be an Opera Singer? I know that it is a different level of singing all together, but the current singers had to start somewhere right? So, do you have to go to a university for it? I would really like to know! Thanks!
Which female singer has two parents that are opera singers? I know there is a singer who was raised by two parents who sang opera. I can't think of who it was - Mariah Carey? Best places for an Opera Singer to live? Hi, Opera is something i've been studying for a few years now and though i'm not planning on moving out of England, (mostly out of curiosity) i was just wondering: Which country/countries are the best at training Opera Singers And which country/countries perform Opera the most. Here in England i think it's mostly Plays and Musical theatre is quite big. I know Opera originates from Italy but is it still big other there, like is it performed a lot. Thanks for answering to my curiosity. lol xxx

Can anyone become an opera singer? Could anyone who takes singing lessons with a good teacher from a very young age become a great singer, like opera-singer quality? Or do you have to have a natural ability?
Is it too late to become a professional opera singer? I am now 19 and I have always had the passion for opera, but was always shy that I would not have the talent to sing opera. I can sing classical music but I've never tried to sing with strong vibrato. Soon I will begin my singing lessons, but it is my dream to become an opera vocalist even if it takes me 5-10 years.

How to sing high notes without sounding like an opera singer? I love to sing, and I have a high voice. Some people in my family say that I sound like an opera singer. I think that I sound like an opera singer because I sing too loud. Can singing too loud make a person sound like an opera singer? I prefer a singing style similar to R&B than opera. I just want some suggestions on how to change my singing style.
How do you get discovered as a teenage opera singer? I am 14 years old and I really want to be the next Charlotte Church. I have all of her songbooks and am working on a couple of her songs. What is the name of that famous opera singer? I think it's like Pavarochie or Povochenie of something. One of his songs was played at my friends Grandad's funeral so If you could tell me the name of hismost known song too that'd be great (: Tanx.
Is a soprano the same as an opera singer? By the way, I was convinced that this was a universal classic art, but recently I read it is western. Is this true? If it is, then just out of curiosity, what do you non-westerners think of opera? (As for me, while it is considered very classy, it's not really my type of music... Since I'm unrefined, I like speccially pop music... Songs like "About you now", by Sugababes really thrill me, and lift us my spirits when I'm blue...)
How does one obtain an autograph/photo with an opera singer at the Met? Usually when one wants an autograph of a celeb, one screams wildly and thrusts the pen and paper into their frazzled hands. Since such stalker-esque/creep-tastic behaviour is generally frowned upon at 'classy' institutions such as the Met in NY...how does one get an autograph/photo etc? What's the protocol? ps. I'll probably be in the nosebleed section as I'm going to either get a rush ticket or a student discount ticket.
