Good Spanish Movies for Spanish Class?
I have to watch a Spanish movie for class. It has to have a spanish director, actors, etc. What are some good ones? I like comedy, but anything that is clean (no sex or too much violence) will work. Thanks!

- Selena. We watched in our Spanish class, or Pan's Labyrinth, but that one might be too violent. There's also Like Water for Chocolate, The Motorcycle Diaries, Maria Full of Grace. There's a lot of them.
- Well, you can ignore Selena...that's an AMERICAN movie with AMERICAN actors, about a Tex-mex lead character. Along with "Like Water for Chocolate" (Mexican/Mexican/Mexican) And "The motorcycle Diaries" (South American...topic is all over Latin America) Don't click that other link...probably a virus. A lot actually depends what would be considered too adult. If you're in university, then you can go for pretty much anything. If you're younger, and/or you don't want to be seeing anything about sexual nature, etc., you might want to skip the assignment altogether! My faves are Pedro Almódovar...one of his early movies has just been made into a Broadway show! He also won the Oscar about ten years ago, Best Foreign Picture. Go into IMDB and search him. Keep in mind his films have a fairly adult nature, as to most of the good films coming out of Spain these days. Even the older films are pretty adult. My favorite (the one in New York, now) is "Mujeres a bordo de un ataque de nervios" (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown") starring, among others, a very YOUNG Antonio Banderas! "Átame" is good, and "Todo sobre mi mamá". I loved "Tacones". His work is wonderfully bent and very funny. Mujeres is probably the lightest. Pan's Labyrinth and the rest of that trilogy is good, but there's some pretty disturbing footage in del Toro's work. He, btw, is Mexican, but we did those in my film class. They are about the Civil War, and were filmed in Spain using Spanish actors. Carlos Saura is also very famous. Once in Imdb, you search the actors that are in the films by the above directors, and see if you like any of the titles you see.
